How to check the CRBR yourself, free of charge

The CRBR is public and free. At crbr.podatki.gov.pl choose "Wyszukaj", enter the company's NIP and open the filing. You see what the company itself filed: each beneficial owner's name, citizenship, country of residence and the size and nature of their holding or rights (art. 59 of the Polish AML Act).

The register has been live since 13 October 2019. A draft amendment of the AML Act would end general public access: authorities and obliged entities would keep full access, others would have to show a legitimate interest. The draft has not been passed; the timing depends on the act.

How to check

Three ways to search the CRBR.

  1. By NIP

The simplest route: the company's NIP in the CRBR search. The result is the current filing and the history of earlier ones.

  2. By KRS number

The same result if you have the KRS number at hand instead of the NIP.

  3. By the owner's details

A search by person — shows the companies in which that person is filed as a beneficial owner.

Limits

What the CRBR will not show.

The register holds what the company filed — and nothing else.

1
Whether the data is current
A company has 14 days to update after a change
Many do not — the register does not check
2
Whether an owner is sanctioned or a PEP
The CRBR compares nobody with any list
3
The full structure
With a foreign parent you only see what the company called "indirect rights"
4
Discrepancies with KRS
The register does not compare the filing with the KRS shareholder list

What the full report adds

  • beneficial owners from the CRBR and shareholders from KRS side by side, with discrepancies between the registers marked,
  • every person screened against sanctions lists (OpenSanctions incl. the MSWiA list, the EU list, OFAC SDN); obliged entities, after a declaration, also see PEP and RCA status,
  • corporate shareholders and the parent company with its country — from KRS and the GLEIF register,
  • a flag when the company is not in the CRBR at all,
  • a 0–100 score in the "Ownership structure" domain,
  • a ready draft of a discrepancy report to the CRBR, if we find one.

Persons whose KRS data is published in masked form cannot be screened automatically — the report says so. The scoring rules are in the methodology.

For obliged entities: the duty to report discrepancies

An obliged entity that finds the CRBR data differs from what it established about the client must report the discrepancy to the authority keeping the register (art. 61a of the AML Act). The report flags such cases and drafts the notice. The definition of a beneficial owner and the 25% threshold are on the beneficial owners page.
